Sixers and Seconders

When I was younger, the summers seemed long
Now I am older, time goes by so fast,
And work is much slower, will we ever be happy ever after?
I never did wonder, how my life would be
I grew up stronger, can work in a team,
And work is much duller, will we ever share laughter again?
I was second in command
I built my group with my own hands
Of ‘Capture the flag’ and defending armbands
I was second in command
In the last summer, my tenure went so fast
And then I left her, the tears rolled my face
My father said believe me, when I say, that these are the best days you’ll have
I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout Law
I am second in command
I taught my group to respect demands
We’re pilots of the night with the best plans
I was second in command

Wine and Muddy Water

I’ll meet by the side of the alter
The one we used to play on when the Bishop didn’t see
It’s about time you took an order
Living your life when it isn’t guaranteed
A train ride from the ocean
It was five past the hour when the orders came in
The sea was sick with commotion
Barely time to breathe from the fire within
And it turns out to be muddy water,
There’s not much else it could be.
I just want to stress the importance,
Through the mist and fog you can’t see
The air was thick with anger
We turned to our own to watch them send us away
They didn’t even lift a finger, when
From the comfort of their bunker said “we’ll rule the day”
I’ll be standing by the side of the alter
The one we used to play on, thought the Bishop didn’t see
But really he had seen the future
Play on my child for hope is looking bleak
So he turned red wine from water?
For the whole of ‘man’ to see.
But I just want to stress the importance,
I need more than a trick to help me.
